The Discipline
What is Open Innovation?
Coined by Dr. Henry Chesbrough at UC Berkeley in 2003, Open Innovation is the deliberate use of inflows and outflows of knowledge across the boundaries of the firm. Instead of inventing alone, firms partner with startups, universities, and other corporations to accelerate innovation — and to commercialize ideas that would otherwise stay on the shelf.
